The Spirit Lake Mysteries are so entertaining to read; and they just keep getting better and better. The characters are well-drawn and engaging; the sense of place is well expressed. The author brings topical events (terrorism, in the case of Blow Up on Murder) into the plot while placing the action in the small lake towns of northern Minnesota where everyone knows your name... Britt, a journalist, has just returned from assignment in Nigeria where she witnessed a terrorist incident and is probably suffering from PTSD. She gets involved with an incident in Minnesota and she and her love interest, Ben, pursue the matter through twists and turns to conclusion. Aspects of the native American culture are intertwined in the story.It's such a treat to read a book that fully immerses you from the first page to the last. And at the end one hopes the author is thinking about the plot of her next book, so readers can look forward to more reading pleasure.

I absolutely loved reading these books and each one was better than the last. This was the third of an exciting, thrilling series and this book was just as hard to put down as the other two. I plan to immediately go back and re-read Focused on Murder and Close up on Murder because I don't want the excitement to end. If you pick up Blow up on Murder, you won't be disappointed!
The 3rd novel in the Spirit Lake series has the characters we know and love, as well as new ones of various hues and textures. The plotting is eventful, eerily contemporary and rich in character moments. Her descriptions of the north woods landscape and weather and those who live there bring the story to vivid life. Thank you, Linda. Keep writing!
This is the series for you! Townsdin's third book in the Spirit Lake Mysteries showcases a complex, strong willed and independent woman with a thirst for justice for her community, family and friends. Start with the author's first book and introduce yourself to an interesting and quirky cast of characters, who grow and stay in your mind more and more. This last book kept me up well past my bedtime!
Linda Townsdin has done it again! I love, love, love the Spirit Lake mystery series and its photojournalist protagonist, Britt Johansson. In her third book in the series, BLOW UP ON MURDER, an explosion in a nearby college town sets the action rolling and it never stops. This is a story about the traumas people suffer trying to be a stand-up person in a dangerous world, about how we create and sustain community, and of course about the ways that relationships get caught in the middle. Townsdin takes us into the heart of the Minnesota northland and crafts a story that is so captivating you won't want to put it down until the mystery is solved. Gorgeous use of language, fast-paced, compelling plot, great characters -- all add up to a terrific book three. Best one yet and I can't wait for the next one!
