I love gardening. I also like experimenting. In over twenty years of gardening I have gathered and tested many growing tips, various potions and tonics as well as organic insect and fungus remedies. They have served me so well that I want to share my experience with other suburban gardeners who might not be as lucky in their endeavors.
This is a gardener’s diary. Every month I chat about things that should be done in the garden and explain the reasons and the methods I use. I strongly believe that a gardener who understands the whys and the hows of the needed action will be able to make better decisions benefitting the wellbeing of the garden. The topics range from the routine maintenance like pruning, spraying, fertilizing and plant propagation to emergency procedures needed when something goes wrong in the paradise that is our garden. And believe me many things can and do go wrong. So I will help you identify early stages of destructive insects and fungus attacks as well as suggest best organic methods of eradicating them.
This book was written in North California where growing season lasts nearly all year. Does this mean that it will be useless in a colder part of the country? Of course not. I always point to a certain happenings in the garden calling for appropriate responses. Breaking dormancy in spring for example manifests itself by buds swelling along the plant’s branches. In my garden it happens in January while in the colder parts of USA it may not happen till April or even May. But sooner or later it will happen, unless we are hit with the new Ice Age when all of us will be in big trouble. So observe your plants and react accordingly no matter when it happens.
Follow me as I walk through my garden performing necessary tasks, developing new ways of dealing with disasters and enjoy the beauty and power of Nature reflected in the colorful pictures taken in my private paradise (aka my garden)
